ORIGINAL LANDSCAPE PAINTING FOR AUCTION AND MORE BEAUTIES AT THE JEFFERSON CENTER

Hey Friends,  Still listing more work for auction on EBAY.  Above a small lady drug her little folding chair to the edge of the Roanoke River in South Salem and settled in for a long time.
She caught several and I had a great time painting her relaxed silhouette.

Here are a couple you will see when you come to the reception at the Jefferson Center on Nov. 29th  2 pm til 4 pm.
These are pretty large at 24"x24" and have nice textures.  Make a statement ! !

PLEIN AIR PAINT-OUT AT SOUTH PEAK

Hey Friends,  Hoping some of you can stop by South Peak tomorrow after 1pm.  Some of us are returning to finish up some paintings and pick up what doesn't. sell.
I made one that I liked today, above, and another that I hated and wiped off.

These 2 photos show how heavy the air was over Roanoke today.  It was very pretty but a little chilly.

There is a huge gazebo with a big fireplace overlooking the valley and that is where the majority painted.  The fire kept us warm too.  And the staff at South Peak gave us a very NICE reception.
Some of us will return tomorrow to finish paintings.

Come UP and see the beautiful vista's captured on canvas.

Read more and get directions on the Double Line Painters's blog HERE.

Rosey Finch

Hey Friends,  Another bird you say.  Yeah, I still love them and love to paint them.  This measures 6" x 5" on 300 lb. arches watercolor paper.  I have put it in an off-white mat and it's in my Etsy shop.

I'm getting some work ready for our Holiday show at the Salem Museum and the Jefferson Center in Roanoke.   We will be hanging both on the same day !  It is lovely to be busy.  Hoping you can make it to both places during Nov. or Dec. to see some new works.  Art makes a wonderful gift for anyone, and in my case, any nature lover.   I will post some images from both places closer to the hanging.

Art Shows in Roanoke and Bedford, Va.

Hello Friends,  Busy time of the year for us, the Double Line Painters.  We have divided to conquer both of the local art shows for this area.   Some of us will be at the SAS, Sidewalk Art Show, on the streets of downtown Roanoke, Va., June 1 and 2.
Some of us will be at the newer show at the Sedalia Center in Bedford, Va.  This new show is very promising and something all of us wish we could do.  But I'm being cautious, sticking with the old for now.
This is a beautiful place to hold an art show, reminds me of the Crozet festivals in Va.

Hope to see lots of you there and please tell us if you read any of our blogs.

Holiday Shopping starts NOW!

Hey Friends,  A wee bit of news.  The annual UUC artisan show started tonight and continues tomorrow, Sat. 11-3-12 from 10 til 4pm.  A photo of my set-up above.  It's a pretty casual show but very tastefully run by the staff at Unitarian Univeralist Church (hope I spelled correctly) at the corner of Apperson & Grandin, across from Patrick Henry High School, in Roanoke, Va.
We are serenaded with lovely piano music and vocals.  They were pretty lively so photo is blurry.
The evening/opening preview was pretty busy.  A decent crowd for a Friday evening, after work, type of thing.  There were lots of appetizers and hot cider to share.
Now if these folks go tell all their family and friends to visit tomorrow,  we may all go home happy campers.
A little bit of everything, for everyone on your list.  Jewelry, clothing, hats, wood art, pottery, stained glass, watercolors, pastel, oil and more.

Reminder - Art on the Asphalt

Hey Friends,  A quick post to remind everyone about the art show this Saturday, the 29th of Sept.  In the parking lot of Budd&Co. on Jefferson St. in downtown Roanoke, Va.  This is the heart of DT Roanoke and sponsored by Signature 9 Gallery.  A beautiful upscale gallery with the art work of some of the areas best artists.  And it's about a block from the art show, so you can see both !
Unfortunately, Bonnie Masons name isn't on the list of exhibitors above.  She didn't find out about the show until after the cards were printed, BUT she will be there, sharing the tent with me.
Hope lots of friends see this reminder and come by to say Hi.  We will have lots of smaller giftable pieces of original art.

Third Place in Acrylics !

Hey Friends, Just wanted to toot my own horn a bit. Today the LRA had their annual awards reception at the Jefferson Center. Ted Batt, curator for the Lynchburg Fine Arts Center, was the juror. Nearly everything he choose was contemporary, or edgy, or experimental. Not much on realism, it seemed to me. So after looking at all the award winners, I'm a little surprised he choose one of mine. If I hadn't used the Masa Paper and all the imprinting, texture techniques, I doubt he would have noticed mine.
The Heron is rendered very realistically but the fun part was adding the rice paper and building up all the textures. A lot of contemplation.
Now I wish I had taken the time to photograph all the winners. There was some really good work in this show. I always enjoy their company.
I think the LRA will post some photos so check them out in the next week or so.
And it was confirmed the "Gift of Art" will happen on Dec. 5th at the Jefferson Center.
Happy Trails.

PS-Went straight from work-thats why I LOOK like a nurse.

I FINISHED IT!!?

Hey Friends, Well, I finally made up my mind. I added the blue stripes to the tablecloth!
I think it added the missing something. Scroll down, peek at the last image of this, and tell me what you think. It is not varnished yet so I COULD change it.
I've been real busy last couple days, doing miniatures for the Christmas show on Dec. 5th. It's called the "Gift of Art"! Get it? This year it will take place at the Jefferson Center, downtown area of Roanoke, Va. I will be showing small paintings and miniatures. Stuff people can afford to give as gifts.
BTW-I got an email tonight from the LRA telling me I won an award in the annual SHOWCASE of ART! No, they didn't tell me which award. I should find out Sunday. The awards ceremony is 2-4 Sunday, Sept. 27th at the Jefferson Center. Hope you can be there.
Happy Trails.

ART ON THE ASPHALT

Well, howdy all. I was way to tired last night to tell you how the new art show went. It was held on Kirk Ave. in downtown Roanoke, yesterday. The opening of the new, huge, gorgeous TAUBMAN ART MUSEUM was held yesterday too. Everyone was hoping a lot of people would find their way over to this art show when they left the museum. It didn't happen. Some came over, but----you know the rest. It was really windy and pretty chilly! You know how it gets between big buildings and the funnel effect with the wind. I enjoyed visiting with artists I had not seen for some time. Next year will be better and I think they want to hold it a little earlier, maybe in October. And "they" are, the staff at SIGNATURE 9 GALLERY. They were so hospitable and good natured. They let the artists use their facilities and served hot cider and a bunch of homemade goodies. Thank you very much ladies!
Now let me mention some shops on ETSY. I was supposed to post their url yesterday, BUT I was just to tired (the bad thing about one day shows). So let me try to post their links now.
