BLOG HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I have tried and tried to figure out how to post photo's with text under them. In a row, as if you were showing a photo and explaining what is happening in that photo. Another way to put it is, I want to upload several photo's with text under each photo to explain my process for creating photo-collage paintings. Sounds so simple.
Please reply in the comments section or email me: suefurrow@comcast.net

I'll love ya forever!

GREAT MARKETING EXCHANGE

This is a quick post to let you know the shop of the day from NEATOSTUFF'S "GREAT MARKETING EXCHANGE" is (drumroll) www.renewedresources.etsy.com. They have craft supplies, beads, feathers and more in their etsy shop. Check it out!
(now I'm gonna try to make a link!)

THE STOCKED MARKET

This Thursday evening, Oct. 13, 08, will be the preview event for the STOCKED MARKET. An annual event/fund raiser for the Junior Women's League of the Roanoke Valley. It is being held at the Roanoke Civic Center for the first time. Past years have been at the Salem Civic Center. I will be there for the opening night with some of the staff from ART ON A MISSION. They have had a booth for a couple of years at this event. ART ON A MISSION offers much more than art. They have antiques, vintage linens, vintage jewelry and more, in addition to a lot of local artists works in 2D, 3D, jewelry, wood creations, photography, candles, handbags, and more. It's a great store and an affordable way to give unique, creative gifts to everyone! Plus you will help support the efforts of the RESCUE MISSION and a lot of artists!!!!! Now back to the STOCKED MARKET, I'm not real sure what the MISSION will have on hand for sale, but I will have miniature paintings and a handout with a coupon inside to get a 10% on Sue Furrow art work through their store at Tanglewood Mall (next to Penney's) Mini-paintings are an afforable and unique gift for everyone. Your childs teacher would probably love a mini painting to put in her window instead of a box of candy or cookies! Give UNIQUE a try this year!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry this a bit long. The images above is a sample of the mini's for sale.

ART ON THE ASPHALT

Well, howdy all. I was way to tired last night to tell you how the new art show went. It was held on Kirk Ave. in downtown Roanoke, yesterday. The opening of the new, huge, gorgeous TAUBMAN ART MUSEUM was held yesterday too. Everyone was hoping a lot of people would find their way over to this art show when they left the museum. It didn't happen. Some came over, but----you know the rest. It was really windy and pretty chilly! You know how it gets between big buildings and the funnel effect with the wind. I enjoyed visiting with artists I had not seen for some time. Next year will be better and I think they want to hold it a little earlier, maybe in October. And "they" are, the staff at SIGNATURE 9 GALLERY. They were so hospitable and good natured. They let the artists use their facilities and served hot cider and a bunch of homemade goodies. Thank you very much ladies!
Now let me mention some shops on ETSY. I was supposed to post their url yesterday, BUT I was just to tired (the bad thing about one day shows). So let me try to post their links now.

Appears I may have done it correctly. Now I'll go check it out!

WOODY SPOT

Here is a cool, quiet spot to read or nap. I painted pretty fast for me (I'm probably the slowest person to ever hold a brush). I was at my sister's place and I had to finish before her children came home from school. They never stop talking or asking questions and I'm so easily distracted, this piece would never have been finished. So if you have questions or comments, please feel free to get in touch. If you CLICK HERE you will go to Ebay to bid. Thanks for stopping in.

NOW THAT THE ELECTION IS OVER!!!!!!!!

WHOOP WHOOP THE OBAMA WON!!!!!!!!!! Now let's see some change-some progress-some hope. I've been commenting to various people that I thought everyone would relax and get back to business as usual, as soon as the election was over. I hope I'm right. My business has been really slowwwww. I've only had two sales in the last week. Both sales came from the LG Hosp. Gallery - not even from the web (Etsy) where there are supposedly thousands of viewers every day! So let's get this economy up and running again. We artist's are starving! LOL (I found out that means laugh out loud) So what's new-artists have always starved.
Anyway, the big shopping season is here! You may know that I'm not much of a blogger, I'd much rather be painting or swinging my baby or taking photos of beautiful yellow trees, but I'm seriously gonna make an effort to post on my blog at least 3/4 times a week. I'm not sure why, some artist like William Hawkins, don't blog every day! He is a real story teller too. You should subscribe to his blog if you enjoy far-fetched story telling. He has a lot of paintings in his ebay store so maybe thats why he feels no need to blog every day.

So now I'm going to get a snack and be back later with a new painting!
Have a great evening and a busy year-end!

NATIONAL ART CONTEST-REFELECTIONS

ART CLASS AT EAST SALEM ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

An art class designed to help inspire the children to make a piece of artwork that makes them think "WOW"!!!!! This national contest can be whatever makes you say WOW in art, music, literature, photography and more. (can't remember the rest).

This was my first attempt at teaching anybody anything! And I must say it was overwhelming. As you can see from the fifth photo, there were 30 children. THIRTY! Mostly ages six to ten or so. That's way too many kids for me. I don't think I was able to get across any ideas or suggestions. I tried to show them how to do a little blending but we were using finger paints. As it turns out - finger paints are very transparent (no body at all). So you can't really blend or buildup with them. I never would have thought that finger paints are so hard to work with. Some children used colored pencils and pastels along with the paint. Some choose to do photography. All in all, they seemed to have a good time! As expected, some turned out some pretty good little paintings. A couple of the photos show how good some are and some show whats on their minds. One photo of Rachael's daughter, shows her pride with a vase of flowers.

This entire post is totally screwed up! I wanted to show a couple of photos then some text, then more photos, more text. But as you can see, I can't figure out how to do that. So, my apology to Rachael. I really wanted this to look good. To look like it was posted by someone that knew what they were doing!!! Maybe Rachael can go in under the comments and post a link to this contest site.

Anyway, the very first photo is of my little sweet grandbaby. The owner of my heart! She had a good time. Had 3 juices and popcorn and ran around giving good advice.
PS-I have no idea why there is so much space between my blocks of text. Maybe blogspot has changed something with the formatting. Don't know.

Hope you enjoyed!

NOTECARDS

Well tonight I finally scanned the images I painted to make notecards from. A series of six. Six vintage garden chairs. I painted them on 8"X8" canvas panels. 'Cuz it is a great size. BUT if I had been thinking "notecards" before I started painting then a size like 4x6 or 5x7 would have been far more intelligent. I had to resize the paintings in photo-shop so a couple look a little squished down. Not bad, mind you. I'm posting the scan. If you are interested, I'm listing them in my ETSY shop. (Just not tonight-I wanna go to sleep-must work at my SUPER SHOES tomorrow).

We have several events coming up soon! (We meaning myself and the art community). I am teaching a group of kids this coming Wed. the 22nd. I say teaching! Ha! I've never taught anyone anything. I'll be winging it for sure. Seriously though, I'm supposed to inspire the kids and hope they inspire their parents along the way. I guess my first teaching assignment is best practiced on kids. Maybe they won't laugh or throw spitballs at me! I love little kids for the first half-hour or so. Then I want their parents to pick 'em up-right away! I'll let you know how it goes.

We have a couple other big events coming up. Probably bashing our heads on the wall, with the media hype about the economy, people aren't out much lately. I'll give you those date later. So I'm off to visit a site on MySpace. Have a great evening.

CLUSTER OF POPPIES

This small piece , 6"x6", is a view from the back yard, looking up a small hill or ridge. It is especially pretty with the evening light. Over the years there have been horses or goats or cows in this little pasture. At the moment there are no animals, so the vegetation has had a chance to grow a bit. I painted this with acrylics on canvas panel and it is varnished. It would make a nice gift for an art enthusiast. CLICK HERE to visit ebay and bidding.

Glad you could visit again.

BACK FROM VACATION

WELL, HOWDY TO ALL!!!
I'm back from my mini-vacation. No, I haven't been on vacation for a whole month! Just a couple weeks and the rest of the time I was painting and building a store on ETSY!!!! and playing with my sweetheart, LILY. I have enjoyed my space but I've got to knuckle down and get some work done. I made a trip to a couple of my gallerys to swap work, etc. Spent several days in my sisters pool (you might remember that I paint her gardens real often). I hate to admit that I haven't gotten any yard or housework done at home. We are into our third year of a drought here in southwestern Va. so the grass hasn't grown much (no mowing) but the house-work will just sit here and wait.
I've got a couple of small shows coming up, both in Nov. Will post more info later.

Hope you can take the time to visit my new Etsy shop - just click on the link at the top-right of this page. I'm offering FREE SHIPPING for the months of Oct and Nov. So maybe you can do a little holiday shopping and save on shipping and save your car's gasoline and save time.

TIME TO OPEN

Here is a new painting! It is a larger piece, 24" x 24", painted with oils on a gallery wrapped canvas. It is adapted from a photo I took years ago on a trip to Germany. Such a beautiful place, the landscape is very much like the mountains here in Virginia. This painting is available at The Little Gallery at Smith Mountain Lake, here in Virginia.

RUDBECKIA'S

Watering cans - an ongoing series of paintings. I'll probably be painting a water can as I draw my last breath. I never tire of painting them. This can has a coat of brick red paint, starting to peel in a few spots. The rudbeckia's are from my sister's yard. Seems like I've heard them called antique sunflowers. I'll be at my sister's all day tomorrow, watching her two sons while she takes her daughter to UVA hospital in the Charlottesville area. Her daughter must visit her doctor at UVA 2-3 times a year to stay on top of her condition. Maybe my sister will let me talk about this some day on my blog. For now if you want to own this little piece (4 1/2"x 4 1/2") or give it to your best friend, then CLICK HERE for purchase information. Thanks for stopping to read.

DRAGONFLY

This is a chunky little painting. It measures 4" x 5" x 1-1/2", so it will stand up all by itself. It's gallery wrapped. I started with goldleaf on the canvas and used a comb type thing to make the swirls so the goldleaf would show through. The closeup shows the dragonfly. If you want to make this yours or need a special gift for someone on your list, just CLICK HERE for ebay! Hope you having a beautiful evening.

OCEAN BREEZE

Here is a happy, summer painting for you. Remember the last time you were at the ocean's edge? That wonderful breeze and all the seaside sounds! The feel of the sand and the sound of the waves? It's been way too long since I saw and heard the ocean. Hoping I get to visit the ocean in Florida sometime in Dec. this year. If you want to own this little reminder (it's 10"x8")just CLICK HERE for info on Ebay. Thanks for stopping in.

MEMORIES

Well - Hello World! It feels like I've been gone a really long time but it's only been a little over a week. My computer bit the dust again! The hard drive had to be replaced. Anyway, a bit about this little 5"x7" painting. I liked the vintage looking coats hanging on the knobs. The light or the ambieance (sp?) or the coziness of all the antique furniture is what made me want to paint it. It feels like home to me. CLICK HERE and you will be sent to ebay if you would like to purchase. Thanks for stopping in.

QUESTIONABLE POTTERY

Some of you may know I have painted several pieces using my mothers pottery. She likes all pottery but especially McCoy. She isn't sure which brand this white pitcher is, hence the name Questionable. Hope everyone is having a good week. I am. I went to Wytheville today to the Reaping Hook Gallery. I needed to swap some artwork. It's owned and operated by Ken and Phyllis Johnson. They are great people and Ken is a wonderful painter, himself. Wytheville is southwest of Salem/Roanoke, just past Va. Tech. (HOKIES). The gallery is right on the main street through town. Stop in, and tell them Sue sent you. If you would like to bid on this piece CLICK HERE. Thanks for stopping in. SOLD

STOCK GERANIUM

I'll bet most of you don't know what a stock geranium is. They are the plants that nurseries and the giant plant producers down south use to cut little pieces from to root for sale to the public. Those beautiful pots of geraniums you see everywhere for sale in the spring came from one of these ugly straggley STOCK plants. CLICK HERE for bidding on ebay. Thanks.

FARM SHED w/ RED AZALEA'S

Some of you may know that Ebay is having a sale on some of their fees. (for the sellers) So I'm posting a few extra paintings tonight. I'll try to keep them short. This artwork is 6" x 9" , an odd size. One of the typical sheds you see all over America. This one is in Ohio. Saw it early morning on a trip to Columbus. A peaceful little painting. CLICK HERE for info on ebay.

GIRLS LIKE TO FISH TOO

I saw this little boat with the people fishing on a trip to Smith Mountain Lake several years ago. Found the photos just the other day when I was moving stuff around in the studio. I like to fish myself but not too many women do, so I found it interesting that this woman liked fishing too. A pleasant, peaceful way to spend time outdoors. CLICK HERE if you want this 8" x 10" painting for a gift or yourself. Happy dreams!

CHECKING ON THE CATTLE

This painting is a composite of several photos. One of the two dogs, one of the horse, one of the rider, and one of the landscape. It was fun and satisfying. Some people still work this way. Hope you like it. This 7" x 5" would be a great gift for almost anyone. CLICK HERE for the auction info on ebay. SOLD

BLUEBIRD ON LILAC

Another piece of artwork from my sister's place. Bluebird's are so-ooooo pretty and lilac's smell so delicious. This is a standard size 8"x 10"-should fit into any standard frame. If you want to bid, CLICK HERE and you go to ebay. Thanks for stopping in. SOLD

WORKING IN PHOTOSHOP/Matanza media

Hey big world, Just a note to see for myself how this image looks on the web. Its a tall, vertical piece that I scanned in two sections because it's to long for my scanner. I did it in Photoshop with photomerge!

OK! It didn't work and I think its because I've got to change psd to jpg! That will probably take longer than the photomerge. So it won't be tonight. Sleep well , my friends.
OK! It worked this time! I changed the psd to jpg. A tidbit to you but cool for me.

DELPHINIUM BED

In reality there were only a few delphiums and a lot of weeds in this bed. Artistic vision is a big help. Have you ever given any thought to the fact that you can buy an original painting, one of a kind, painted with high quality, permanent, lightfast acrylics or oils, for less money than the mass produced, unlimited prints at Sam's, Cosco or Kmart? Thanks for stopping in. For purchase info on ebay CLICK HERE.

SISTERS - A Little Breakfast

I have painted these little ladies a couple times before. I have enjoyed visiting with them on several occasions. A lively, outspoken pair, enjoying their retirement and life. We have talked about everything, from their garden and birds to food and sex! A really funny visit to be sure. I can almost imagine this being me and my sister, except the body shapes would be very different. Kinda makes me think of the TV movie "the Golden Girls". I spent the entire day, yesterday, in my sisters swimming pool with my precious grandbaby and today my back is killing me. I have still been in my studio working on a couple commissions though, I had to tear myself away to come home to post this piece. Hope you see what I see in it. CLICK HERE to go to ebay to purchase. THANKS for visiting.

IRIS

This is a 7" x 5" mixed media on canvas panel. A companion piece to the one below. The design and use of unusual papers are really fun to incorporate into your paintings. You should give it a try. If you like this then CLICK HERE and go to ebay to purchase.

DAFFODILS

This is a 7" x 5" acrylic, graphite and decorative paper on canvas panel. I enjoy working this way and do so pretty often. The fun part is figuring out a design to fit your subject into. I was after a contemporary take on botanical drawings. Hope you like it! If so CLICK HERE and you can bid on ebay. Thanks.

PEARS AND CANDLES

A vase of sunflowers with candles glowing. Pears didn't last as long as the sunflowers. This canvas was cut from a large piece of canvas - its a very odd size. I've already made a frame to this size - so I'm including the frame FREE! It is 5 3/4" x 5 1/4". CLICK HERE to place a bid on ebay. Thanks for visiting.

IMPATIENS

This is an 8"x10" acrylic on canvas panel of the flowers "impatiens" along with grapes obviously at a window. Sometimes we simply paint things because of the light or we want to practice the act of painting. Hope you like it! I think I remember this size canvas ships for about $8.00, I know thats a bit more than usual but gasoline prices just won't stop! Just a little side note: I need to have a little work done on my studio (which some of you may know is my fathers old workshop/garage). I need to replace an old rickety sliding/rolling 8' door with some french doors given to me from my sister. So I've got to move a ton of stuff so they can actually see the doorway. Therefore I'm planning to have a little STUDIO CLEARANCE/REMODELING SALE!!! Soon I hope. I have to take photos or scan the artwork, so that could take a while. Any way, have a great evening and CLICK HERE if you would like to own this painting. Thanks
PSS - I'm really sorry I must cancel the ebay listing for this piece. I dropped it and it needs a little reworking. I just don't have time right now. I have 3 commissions I'm worried about finishing, so I'll have to work on this piece later. I'll post it again and hope no one is disappointed they can't bid right now! Thank all of you very much, Sincerely, Sue

EGRET

This is just one of the many marshy areas you can find in southern Florida. I love to paint birds and include them every chance I get. This is a 5"x7" acrylic on canvas panel. A standard size that should fit into any 5x7 frame you find. For bidding info CLICK HERE and you will link to ebay. Have a wonderful weekend! SOLD
