It's HERE Again !

Hey Friends,  I have been busy prepping new work for the 42nd Lynchburg Art Festival !
The lavender piece above will be there, waiting for YOU.

I'm hoping you can make out to EC Glass High School for the best little art festival around.
We artists love it for the easy set up but most of all because the collectors in this area are so warm, generous and apprectiative of our work !

Hoping the weather is kind to us Saturday.  They will reschedule for Sunday if it appears Saturday is NO good.

Smelling Fresh and Kite Festival

Hey Friends,  The painting above is up for auction , Click Here is see.  I rode the little golf cart down the rode to Mr. Charley's place and luckily there was laundry on the line.  I made up a couple pieces (pink whatever's) for some added color.  Mr. Charley is widowed.  The sunspots were a welcomed enhancement.
Yesterday, Sat., my GranBabes and I went to see the kites at the Green Hill Kite Fest.  It was much prettier then last year.  Or it could be I didn't stay long enough last year.  This photo doesn't really show off how many kites were in the air.  Can't wait to make a couple paintings of this day.

And I probably shouldn't show you this, but it's funny NOW.  This is what Nic thought of the festival.

And this is what Ms.Lill thought of it.  She did real well with both kites.  She is a sweet, patient big sister most of the time.  And Nic can pluck her last nerve on demand.

Happy Easter.

"Campfire No. 2"

Hey Friends,  Trying my hand at a nocturne here.  Of course it's totally made up.  The fire photo came from a marshmallow roasting night at my sisters years ago.  The moon photo came from last year when I was in my secret place trying to catch the blue moon.  And the rest is a memory.
I DID enjoy doing this however difficult it may have been.  And it is a bit darker then my computer shows.  You know, ya got the light shining thru this image but not in real life.
  Check it out HERE

" Rock " a palette knife study

"

Hey Friends,  A tree, a tree stump and a rock.  Should make a simple statement so I can use the palette knife for a change,  This was done last spring, when the greenery was just starting to poke out.
I missed the phlox and mertensia colors at first but I like the contrast between the rock and trees now.
This can be found in an Ebay auction here.

Foot Bridge at Greenhill Park, Salem, Virginia

Hey Friends,  Came across this little painting yesterday while shuffling through the cold studio.  So I have listed her on ebay.  You can click here to learn more.
My painting group is anxious to get out there and do some painting.  It's been a long winter and we are rusty (some of us anyway).  We will meet next week in a local park and the week after everyone wants to go to DT Roanoke for some new shots of the market area.  So I should have some new fodder for you to see soon.
Yesterday I went to the "Butt Hollow Cemetary" here in the Fort Lewis area, I guess Fort Lewis would fit the description.  Some relatives are buried there and I have a distant cousin coming in to town soon so I wanted to be sure I knew where it was.  I think I'll go back soon and make a painting.  Everyone loves a cemetery painting.

Day 26 Almost done ! Myrtle Beach State Park #3

Hey Friends,  Some trees at Myrtle Beach State Park, SC.  I was told the salty sea air causes the trees to naturally prune themselves by dessicating the foliage on the sides facing the ocean.  The trees were more naked and flat on the right sides but it just looked stupid to me in this little painting.  So I fixed it OR did I?

Day 23 of Leslie Saeta's Challenge "Myrtle Beach State Park #2"

Hey Friends,  This is another version of Myrtle Beach State Park, SC.  It feels incomplete or non-descript, may be a better word.  Not enough contrast, esp. on my monitor.
I will most likely re-do this one.  But I'll go ahead and let the world see my screw up only because of this challenge.
For the Ebay auction CLICK HERE, which goes live at 6pm tonight.

Day 22 "Popcorn Thief"

Hey Friends,  A pretty little gull (I thought it was a girl because it was so petite) stole a popcorn from my sisters hand as she was pulling back to throw it.  Sis let out a squeak, funny.

Day 20 " Alley #1 "

Hey Friends,  While at Myrtle Beach last month, I rode around a bit on the tricycle of my sisters Son.
He is handicapped so the cycle is adult sized.  I had fun riding it and it really amused my niece.
Pedaling along on Ocean Blvd., I saw several alleys of interest so I went back at sunset and the setting sun was just right to create nice little streaks of light in the darkness.  I really want to do a bigger version.  This one is 7"x 5" and is for auction in Ebay - CLICK HERE.

Day 19 of Leslie Saeta's Challenge

Hey Friends, A favorite subject for Day 19 - Clouds !   At the state park in Myrtle Beach, SC it was very windy on this day.  I caught some grasses upright when the wind stopped for a second.  I believe it is sea oats.  BTW sea oats grow just about anywhere, they are tough little plants, I guess that's why they hold the sand in place so well.
I've put her in Ebay at Auction, just CLICK HERE.

No. 17 of the Challenge

Hey Friends,  I'm caught up for a few days with the challenge paintings.  By that I mean, if something happens (like my Babes spending tonight or a play date with my paint buddies) I will have one to post.  I'll still paint every day.

Here is one of my photos for reference.  Took a while but I finally learned how to move the camera with them, to get a NON blurry shot.  It's a wonder I wasn't covered in poo.
This little diddy is in my Ebay shop  CLICK HERE

Day 16 in the 30 dy Challenge

Hey Friends,  My piece for Day 16.  The back yard again at the vacation house in Myrtle Beach, SC.  The little short white fence with the contorted trees (I don't know what kind they are) was a challenge for me.  I can't paint a straight line.
Again you will find it in an auction on Ebay, Click here.
And click on the DLP blog over there, to hear about our fun time today.

Day 10 of Posting Original Paintings for Leslie Saeta's Challenge

Hey Friends, Another of palms, same spot as the painting posted 2 days ago.  Just about the same weather conditions so I stayed on the porch again.  Every one was at the beach, shivering but Happy !  I felt the need to practice a bit with the oils again.
She is listed in my Ebay auctions starting at a penny.

Commission Work

Hey Friends, Yesterday I had my favorite little man for 4-5 hours. The photo above is Nic in the swing and I'm laying on the ground clicking away. I was after reference photos for my swing paintings! He was pretty entertained by me laying on ground. He is such a sweetheart.
I thought I'd show you what I've been working on for a while. I haven't painted with oils for a long time so I'm pretty slow. I'm catching up now, I think. The photo above is the initial block in. Already I'm not happy with it. Everything is in a line. And even though that's pretty much how it is in real life - it doesn't make for a good composition. S0000-0-0-0-------
Here I've painted out the arbor bench and made the pond bigger. This seems to give more of an aerial perspective. So now I"ll put the bench back in, lower in picture plane and rotate it to the right. There will be 2 children and a dog in here also. And the pond doesn't look exactly like this, but I wanted to see inside so the beautiful Koi and plants show up better. The lady that commissioned this painting has worked real hard to landscape her yard and it is beautiful. Hope I can do it justice.
Happy Trails.
