HOLIDAY OPEN HOUSE AT POTENTIALLY CHIC AND NEXT STEP WITH THE COMMISSION

Hey Friends,  Last night I went with some of the DLP gals to the Holiday Open House at Potentially Chic on Brambleton Ave. here in Roanoke, Va.  It was a very enjoyable event and evening.  I finally found the perfect birthday gift for my sister.!  Really happy about that.  And the jewelry maker, the Velvet Peony, had the perfect gift for a dear friend in Florida !

And the photo above shows one of my paintings in one of their beautiful shop vinyettes. (spell check couldn't even correct this word-so I don't feel too dumb)

AND they sold this painting of mine !!  How cool is that?

They also sold some of the mini rooster blocks.

And lastly I wanted to show you this detail shot I emailed to the couple that commissioned the painting I began showing you yesterday.

I asked what she thought of this and a few more shots.  She replied "the hen looked as if she is wearing a beret and glasses."  I was real puzzled until I got back to the photos I sent her.

The interpretations other people see always amaze me.  I CAN SEE IT now.  But until she said that I never would have seen it.  So now I have some more work to do.  But I'm really happy she told me and I can correct I hope.

MEMORIES

Well - Hello World! It feels like I've been gone a really long time but it's only been a little over a week. My computer bit the dust again! The hard drive had to be replaced. Anyway, a bit about this little 5"x7" painting. I liked the vintage looking coats hanging on the knobs. The light or the ambieance (sp?) or the coziness of all the antique furniture is what made me want to paint it. It feels like home to me. ANTIQUE CAN

This is one of my mom's old water cans. We both have several cans. This is a really rusty, well used can and petite too. This would be a nice gift for any gardener or antique lover! VINTAGE TABLECLOTH w/ COSMO'S

A few little cosmo's - last of the beauties this past fall. I took a couple of photo's then and just got around to painting this last week. My mom is a packrat that saves fabric, bed covers, tableclothes and more. This is from her stash. For purchase info click HERE.

AFTER THE DISHES ARE DONE

I call this technique "painted photo collage". I used a photo I made of one of my paintings. There is a long process of preparing the photo involved, then it's mounted on the canvas and painted over in areas and sometimes glazed then embellished with stamping or crackling or bits of paper or music and lots more stuff. (the original painting of apron is in the collection of a local hospital) It's a lot of fun. This is a pretty nostalgic piece. I'll bet any mother would like to have it. VINTAGE QUILT

Quilts are irresistable. I love to feel them and use a couple on my bed. It's fun to make pillows from the scraps. I find it fun to hunt for them is flea markets. This piece is painted in acrylic on a canvas panel and it is varnished to protect it from the elements. Ready to be framed and the size is 4"x6", which you can find every where. "HOME SWEET HOME"

DELPHINIUMS

This lady is cutting delphiniums for a vase. I used my mom for the model. Mom is not that stout but the dress just seemed to grow fuller. She also has a bunch of hats for the garden work. Looks like a lovely job for anyone. To purchase "Delphiniums" on E-bay click here
