RUDBECKIA'S

Watering cans - an ongoing series of paintings. I'll probably be painting a water can as I draw my last breath. I never tire of painting them. This can has a coat of brick red paint, starting to peel in a few spots. The rudbeckia's are from my sister's yard. Seems like I've heard them called antique sunflowers. I'll be at my sister's all day tomorrow, watching her two sons while she takes her daughter to UVA hospital in the Charlottesville area. Her daughter must visit her doctor at UVA 2-3 times a year to stay on top of her condition. Maybe my sister will let me talk about this some day on my blog. QUESTIONABLE POTTERY

Some of you may know I have painted several pieces using my mothers pottery. She likes all pottery but especially McCoy. She isn't sure which brand this white pitcher is, hence the name Questionable. Hope everyone is having a good week. I am. I went to Wytheville today to the Reaping Hook Gallery. I needed to swap some artwork. It's owned and operated by Ken and Phyllis Johnson. PEARS AND CANDLES

A vase of sunflowers with candles glowing. Pears didn't last as long as the sunflowers. This canvas was cut from a large piece of canvas - its a very odd size. IMPATIENS

This is an 8"x10" acrylic on canvas panel of the flowers "impatiens" along with grapes obviously at a window. Sometimes we simply paint things because of the light or we want to practice the act of painting. Hope you like it! I think I remember this size canvas ships for about $8.00, I know thats a bit more than usual but gasoline prices just won't stop! Just a little side note: I need to have a little work done on my studio (which some of you may know is my fathers old workshop/garage). I need to replace an old rickety sliding/rolling 8' door with some french doors given to me from my sister. So I've got to move a ton of stuff so they can actually see the doorway. Therefore I'm planning to have a little STUDIO CLEARANCE/REMODELING SALE!!! Soon I hope. I have to take photos or scan the artwork, so that could take a while. McCOY POTTERY III

A small painting of another piece of my mother's McCoy Pottery. I added the daffodil for the color contrast and the shadow. POTHOLDERS

We are at window here. The stove is just to your left. It's hot but there is a nice breeze coming through the window, blowing the curtains a bit. I like the colors of the canisters with the dishes and the potholders. This is a 5"x5" acrylic on canvas. Please take a moment to leave your comments on this piece or any of the previous. LEMONS

What inspired this piece? I really like stripes (and dots) and I wanted to paint some lemons, si I felt this piece of fabric from Mom's stash would make a good background for the lemons. This week has been pretty productive as far as painting goes. The laundry and housework has piled up but I have finished two big pieces and started another. It isn't in my nature to paint very fast but I've really been pushing myself to go a little faster. I have a tendency to paint every leaf.
