PLEIN AIR PAINTING WITH THE DOUBLE LINE PAINTERS TODAY

Hey Friends, Judy got a good photo of some of us this morning on our ride down to THE bridge.  This place is awesome, so much prettier than the photos you see.  And it is Va.'s newest State Park so you can get a great deal on a year long pass to ALL of the state parks.

And here is Linda and Mary Anne taking a photo of the semi completed paintings.
We had a great new friend from the Lexington area join us today and then we had a super ranger named Veronica give us a tour of the entire park and a few hidden landscapes that we all think were worthy of a painting.
Huge THANKS TO Michael and Veronica.

WHISPERING IN THE WIND 30 DAY CHALLENGE

Hey Friends,  My latest for Leslie's 30 day challenge.  Inspired by a dream, which does not happen to me very often.  If anyone knows how to induce dreaming let me know.  Some of my most favorite work has come from dreams.  I don't paint the nightmares although it might be a way of purging them.

This is how it could look in your breakfast nook.  If you know anyone that is remodeling, or an interior decorator, please forward my work on to them.

You can view this on my website HERE  and  HERE at the 30 day Challenge.

It is beautiful weather today here in SW Virginia. so I had better get outside and sling some paint.

30 in 30 CHALLENGE - RUSHING HOME

Hey You All,  This painting looks kind of springy to me, probably 'cuz of the greens.  It is raining snow and probably ice right this minute here in SW Virginia.  This painting is a real contrast to what I see outside.  You will find this on my WEBSITE or in DT Roanoke at Gallery 202.

This was created specifically for this challenge and it was another lesson in my journey to the abstract side of my brain.  Would be nice to hear from my friends what they think of this journey.  Even if you don't especially like abstract art, you should still have an opinion as to how it makes you feel  The colors of anything should have an effect on you.
So don't be shy, unless you are extremely mean, you won't hurt my feelings.
I LOVE doing these works so I'm not gonna stop.

Hope your winter day is happy for you.

A DOG'S LIFE, AN ORIGINAL PAINTING

Hey Friends,  I finished this up today.  I think the word is SWOONING or PINING to be there.  I would like to live on the beach for about a year.  I'd like to know if I'd ever get tired of the sand and sun.  Can't imagine that.

This is a 12" square canvas Panel and it is in my Ebay Store HERE.

I was out plein airing all by myself yesterday and finished 2 of the local scenery.

I will post them tomorrow maybe.  I love it when I have something fun to show you.

Have a grand Sunday evening.

GUARANTEED TO MATCH THE COUCH RECEPTION IN LYNCHBURG

Hey Dear Friend Friends,  Glad some of you made to the reception last night at Lynchburg Art Club.
We had a great time and as you can see the Club always puts out a grand table.

Everyone has to get a few bites before they start choosing their favorites.

And looky here, Sue standing on her own two legs !  Was I still under the effects of the anesthia when I painted these two?  Either that or I had something Hi-Octane in that glass.

The group, Double Line Painters had a good time at the event.

Check out the Art Clubs website HERE for times, etc. because the show is up through the end of August.

FAB WORKSHOP AT EVERGREEN LAVENDER FARM

Hey Friends,  Yesterday, June 24th, we the DLP's held our 3rd workshop at the infamous and beautiful Evergreen Lavender Farm in Appomattox, Va.

Hosted by Bonnie Swanson, the hard-working woman that keeps this farm so beautiful.

Above Mary Anne is squeezing some yellow-ochre onto a palette for one of the students.

They all seemed to have a good time expressing their version of the farm.

And each had a totally different version, a totally different feel!  It was great fun and all had a good time.  Hope they will give it a another try.  The next version could be even more awesome.

Click on the DLP's up there to read a little more.

ROADBLOCK - Original Abstract Painting

Hey Friends,  Tell me what you think of this one?  I painted it last fall, late 2016. One of my first experiments with Bob Burridge's color wheel.  He has some informative video's on YouTube about his wheel.

This is a detail shot that hopefully you can see the textures.  Made with a cake decorating tool.  A few splatters too.

This is listed for sale at my website HERE.
And you can get prints, canvas or paper, at FAA HERE.

Thanks for stopping in.

TWINKLE TWINKLE - Original Landscape Painting

Hey Friends,  This Painting was created because I wanted to put that beautiful cloud on canvas.  I enjoy storms and all their drama probably because I've never been hurt by one

And I wanted to add a little whimsy here by using some paper with verbage on it. This paper has the little song on it. Twinkle Little Star.  I know it doesn't have anything to do with a storm but storms do happen a lot, late in the day, and then the moon and stars come out.
Whether you are a storm lover or hater, this would look good hanging on your wall.

Check it out on my website HERE.
Or check out the prints on FAA HERE

Have a wonderful day.

BASED ON TRUE EVENTS - Original Mixed Media Abstract Painting

I took this photo at a sideways angle because I think you can see the textures better.  I enjoy playing with the gesso and modeling paste as much as the real paint and papers.

Hung some papers with bits of tape, looking for an arrangement of shapes.  No sketch this time. Flying free and low.

As usual, I get wrapped up in the joy of creation and forget to take photos !  So here is the abrupt END !  Honestly did not intend for this patriotic color scheme to take over but this is what he seemed to want.  And these are the true events
leading up to this finish.

Listed in my website HERE.
Listed in my print shop HERE.

Hope you are having as much fun as I am this winter.

COMPASS OF WINDS - New Original Abstract Art

Hey Friends,  Another one of my first experiments into Abstract Art.

The first layer of color.  Some napthol, cadmium and aliziran.

The various papers are glued down.  This is a cruciform design again.  It is very easy to work with.

I prefer to paint my name instead of using a sharpie.

A closeup of the papers. a couple were made by me and a few I found in a scrap book.

This is available in my website at FASO.  Prints and more at FAA.

BROKEN WORDS - A Large Original Expressive Painting

Hey Friends,  Another expression from my sub conscience.  Symbolic of the pains we all go through in our short little lives.  Lots of words are spoken, as promises or threats, to keep us in line.  Rarely spoken from a true heart
It can hurt.  But if you wait just a little bit, a new dawn will shed new light.
You will see a new path, if your eyes are open.
Sometimes my brain surprises even me with all this melancholy or would you call it BS?!

Anyway, Hard or Easy, LIFE is GOOD.

You can purchase at my website, www.suefurrow
OR
maybe you prefer a pillow or T-shirt at FAA.

Thanks for stopping.

FAMILY VACATION New Collage

Hey Friends,  This turned out to be a fun project.  I found a piece of map in my odds & ends stash.   I laid it on my paper and added a few odd pieces of painted paper to the papers.  I moved them around for a while.
Once I found the composition I liked and glued them down, and let it dry.

The fun stuff started then.  I cut out the paper doll string and the fence posts and the other touches.  I enjoy scribbling with a graphite water soluble pencil.  So that means I must spray it with fixative before varnishing.

All in All, I should be ready for a few shows this year.
I need to work on some bigger pieces soon.

I updated my website with the new upcoming events that I'm aware of.
Check it out HERE.

Have a great weekend.

ORIGINAL COLLAGE "MELBOURNE"

Hey Friends,  I'm going to continue with my series of collages even though the 30 day Challenge is over, maybe not everyday.

This one got the title MELBOURNE  because it reminds me of that big, beautiful museum on the sea in Australia.  Unintentional.

Enjoying this process and hoping I can pull it off in a bigger size.               Maybe a 20 x 20 would satisfy me.This is listed in my website if you are interested.  Click HERE to check it out.

NO.24 in the 30 Day Challenge - ' DONUTS'

Hey Friends,  I'm tickled with how this one turned out.  I started with the cut out circles and it occurred to me then, that they could be donuts.

Then the red swirly thing looked like an old fashioned stove burner which lead to the HOT COFFEE.

This has been a fun ride and hope you have gotten a spark or two out of it.

If not, just go to You Tube.  That ought to get your motor going.

Until tomorrow,

No.23 in the 30 Day Challenge - WHITE DAISYS

Hey Friends,  Here is my latest experiment.  Using my new acrylic markers.  It feels a bit like going back to childhood days of coloring in the lines only.  Out lining the leaves gave it an entirely new look  And I like the worn out use of alcohol spots.

Have really enjoyed all my studio time but still anticipating painting out doors.

Traces of 2016 - #2 in 30 Day Challenge

Hey Friends,  Doing blog posts at 9pm can really tax my brain.  I should be spacing out in front of the TV.
"Traces of 2016" is my final decision for a title.

Maybe you did not read my first post of Saeta's 30 day challenge, which was just yesterday.  But my theme is Black and White with pizzazz from Pantone's Top 10 Colors for 2017.  So above are Greenery and Primrose Yellow and mixed on the table they made a PooPoo yellow.

So had to get out their Flame Something.  I wanted a more Rust color and the Flame didn't do it so I just added some Quin Gold.

This is the final, using the PooPoo Yellow and Flame and Greenery.
But you do see I started with a Black and White Base.

This is available at my Website HERE or if you want a print from FAA HERE.

Process/Progress of "Being Loved Deeply"

Hey Friends,  More progress shots !  I feel like someone should pat my head and say "Good Girl"
Above, on a 24" x 12" canvas that I had stained sometime before, I put some texture paste on pretty thick in some areas.

Had to wait a couple days for the thick stuff to dry.  Then added a bit of color, not sure where it was headed.

I love burgundy so that got me started.

Then touches of more primaries, thalo blue and yellow.

Then mixed the blue, yellow for green and made some drips.
I know some people don't like drips but I do for some reason!  And I love splatters too!
Please tell me if you think I carry them too far.

I like circles and squares too.  Maybe I can use them next, if I remember to be a "Good Girl".

Having a great time finishing out this year and hope you are too.
But if you can, make it go a bit slower.

POND IN PEARISBURG

Hey Friends,  I remembered again to take progress shots, this is just a couple of them.
I have a photo of the wonderful pond in Pearisburg, Va. on my Chrome Book.

A closer look at the water lilies.  They were not in bloom at the time I took the photo.

That is a bridge way in the distance.

The Koi are another figment of my imagination but they fulfilled their purpose.

There were lots of reflections and sky patterns in the water.

Here is the final piece at 24" x 18".  The colors are very true.
This is available in my website, www.suefurrow.com .

I love process shots on other people's blogs and hope you enjoy them too.

Please feel free to comment.
