The "Route Eleven Show" is ready to hang

Hey My Dear Friends,  Today the DLP and myself, laid out all the paintings going to the Exhibit at the Arts Depot in Abingdon, Va. this coming week.  A LOT of work and planning has gone into this exhibit.

Above is one of my oil paintings title "An Offering to the Future" will be hanging.

I keep a list of titles in a notebook, ongoing, so I never can remember where I hear or read these titles and I'm hoping I didn't copy anyone I know.

The reception is from 6 until 8pm on Thursday May 5th, 2016.

Day 23 in Leslie Saeta's Challenge

 Hey Friends, Another stamped image, using just 2 different sized hand carved stamps.  I started with the purple stained tissue paper and gelled it to the canvas.  This created little ridges ( it's almost impossible to get tissue paper on smooth) which made me think of seaweed.  So there you have the fish swimming through the seaweed in a purple ocean.  No, I don't drink or do drugs.  Some things are meant to be. 

 Here is a sloppy close up, sorry, to tired to fool with photoshop.  I will put this in my Etsy shop.

Day 22 of Leslie Saeta's Challenge

Hey Friends,  I must be honest,  this piece of work has not been shown before BUT I didn't paint it yesterday.  I made this about a month ago.  There now you can chastise me.  I made a post here on my blog sometime ago, I will attempt to link to it so you can see that I made the stamps for all of these critters.  I did enjoy carving the stamps and thoroughly enjoyed creating a design to fit them into.  So please leave a comment, tell me what you really think of this.

Terra Skin !

Hey Friends,  The Double Line Painters met yesterday for a session of still life painting at Midge's club house on Smith Mountain Lake.  It was great fun and I tried working on some new paper I bought at Cheap Joe's.

I had heard of this new paper at least two years ago and looked and looked for it.  An artist in Canada was raving about it's texture.  Finally Joe had it in stock.

It feels so smooth and thick.  Not like WC paper or Yupo.  My acrylics took longer to dry than usual, I think the paint pretty much sits on top instead of sinking in so that may be why it takes longer to dry.

You can use ANY media and you do not have to use gesso.  I want to try some dry media like pastels !

30 in 30 Challenge

Hey Friends,  A short post to show the latest hummer for the 30 in 30 challenge.   I KNOW I've not been posting every day but I'll just have to take a beating.   My daughter is very sick still and it's taking a toll.

Lamp Shade

Hey Friends, I told Kathleen Krucoff last week I would show her a lamp shade I made using Masa Rice Paper. Thought you might like to see it also.
A few years ago I ordered some Waxed Rice Paper just out of curiosity. Once I had it, just couldn't figure out how to use it in my art because it wouldn't stick to any surface using acrylic matte medium. So when I was redecorating a bedroom, I couldn't find a lamp shade for a floor lamp I had. Ta-Dah! I crumpled the waxy Masa, as usual. Spread it on some plastic and dumped liquid acrylics on it. When dry, I cut the shape out and glued with hot glue to the frame and added the beads, etc.

Here is the close up of the texture. It is an illusion because the paper is very smooth and flat. I love this paper! I've always wanted to wallpaper a small space with it. Can you imagine that?

BEACH NO3

Hey Friends, Artists know they should paint what they love, the things that really inspires them. So with that in mind, I painted another beach scene. Using the same photos I've used several times. In this painting I felt like adding some figures. Some humans enjoying the sun and water as much as I would, if I only had the time to go.

This is painted on masa rice paper with acrylics, one of my all time favorite techniques, which I learned from Vera Dickerson years ago. You can find 8x16 giclee/reproductions in my Etsy shop by clicking here.
