ORIGINAL SMALL PAINTING WALKING FAT DOG

 

Hey Friends,  This painting I decided needed a funny title.  So I'm calling it :WALK, Fat Dog".

A man on the greenway exercising himself and his dog decided to walk along for protection.

 Today I also changed my artwork at 2nd Helpings Gallery on Williamson Rd. in Roanoke, Va.  I took in 6 new pieces.

The one immediately under my name to the left, is from the Southport-Calabash area of N.C.  The one under it is from PaintBank, Va.  The top on the right side is also from PaintBank.  The long one on the bottom right is a composite of sorts.

 

These two smaller pieces are views from Goose Creek in Bedford and a tree on Mill Mountain,.

 here in SW Va. Blue Ridge.

 

All looks good there now.

Another Series and Workshop

 

Hey Friends,  Last Thursday I started a little series of little paintings about the sky.  I went to the roof of my studio (it's a flat roof) this is where I usually paint "My Field" paintings.  This year we have had a lot of interesting skys because of various weather factors but more so because of Hurricane Arthur and the freaky vortex that came down from Canada last week.

 

Here I am with all my gear up on the roof.  That little painting is available in EBAY.

 

Yesterday Saturday August 2, we, the Double Line Painters held a small workshop at 2nd Helpings Gallery on Williamson Rd. (the old Sears Bldg.)  A Painted Papers workshop.  Click Here to read more about it and sign up for the workshop to be held at the Sedalia Center on Aug. 23rd.

 

As I said on the DLP blog, it is worth the drive to this beautiful area of our Virginia.  You will have a great time and go home with a stash of beautiful papers and inspiration to last all year.

Fun in the Mountains

 

Hey Friends, Yesterday I delivered plein aire paintings to 2nd Helpings Gallery on Williamson Rd. which is close to DT Roanoke right off of Rt.460.  Pictured above.

 

After helping the DLP group work on our Barns of Bedford guitar (I'll show you tomorrow) I raced up to Mill Mountain to see what the beautiful sky looked like.  I sat on the curb close to the overlook and painted the above 5x7.

 

Then I raced home to get into shorts and an icy drink, then raced over to Greenhill Park in Salem, Va. on the Roanoke River to see what I could practice on.  The river is seriously low.  We will be calling it the Roanoke Creek soon.  Lots of rocks to include in paintings.

 

For the locals, aren't you surprised at how low the water is?  I knocked out 2- 9"x 12" panels and then hauled it all back up to the car.  Those rocks are hard on your knees !

 

When I got back to the car, the sky was so pretty I had to sit on the bumper and do another !

A 12" sq. panel of the treeline and beautiful clouds.  Most days I paint outside it is because of the sky.  I may not always put the sky in but that's what pulls me out there.  I would like to do a grand vista.  A large wide open valley with a big sky.  Some day soon.

Above is a shot of me painting at 2nd Helpings Gallery on Williamson Road in Roanoke, Va.  My painting group, the DLP was at the gallery today, just to entertain the customers.  The gallery's regulars seem to really enjoy us painting and any demo's in general. It is a great gallery and their café has wonderful food.

This is one piece I finished today (not finished in this photo).  I will scan it and show it tomorrow.  I like it a lot probably because I love the colors of all the trees blooming right now.  I took some photos last week when I was out at Butts Cemetary, along Alleghany Rd., when I came across this beautiful row of trees.  I think it was at Richfield.
