First Post of 2015 with a look toward Spring

 

Hey Friends,  Starting this New Year right !  Starting with thoughts of the coming spring.  My GranBabes and I (me especially) are sick of being cooped up indoors.  And its only January.  At least 3 more months of this yuck.

This little painting was a joy to create.  I love to play with the colors of spring.  Azaleas, Rhododendrons, Daffodils, Iris, Tulips all have so many joyful colors, you can't help but be happy when looking at them.

Do you remember swinging on an old rope swing with the wooden seat?  Most of us loved to be twirled until the ropes were wrapped all the way to the top and then pushed, way high and twirling all at once.  Such great fun.

Windflowers and Swinging

 

Hey Friends,  I really lost track of time didn't I ?  Summer fun will do that.  And can you believe summer is almost gone? !  I have to say this is available in an Ebay auction in this first paragraph because DPW has such NINNY rules.  They cut me off last post 'cuz I didn't follow the rules.

 

 

I returned to my sisters last week to get a couple more flower bed paintings done before summer calls it quits.  Plants change from week to week so I could get a new view/painting every week.

This time the windflowers were right on the verge of opening.  I helped them open a bit.  They are the white ones.

 

And I wanted to show you my little grandson swinging on Sister's giant rope swing.  I pull the tail out as far as possible and he is really high.  Can't tell in this photo 'cuz I was trying for this shot.

 

Then he swings way out over the flower bed and grins from ear to ear.  They love it.  And they love to go there 'cuz they have 2 dogs !!

"Rainbow" and Spring is Here !!

Hey Friends,  Here is my Babe swinging high over the mountains at Green Hill Park, here in SW Virginia.  And a rainbow suddenly appeared.  Ha.  Using the stale imagination here.  She is going to be at auction in Ebay.  Click Here to take a peek.

And here is the news of the day--"It's warm again here in the mountains, the Blue Ridge Mountains"
Yay,  I jumped in the golf cart and rode down to the bottom of the hill where the crazy people live.
I've painted here many times.  It seems to change every winter.  And in the photos you can't see the little stream of water like you can in the painting.

This shot is the block in or start.  I made the base coat blue for a change but I still like the red base better.   I painted another after this one on a red base.  I'll show you that one tomorrow.

Here more colors are added.  As you can see the real scene isn't so pretty or maybe my camera was on the wrong setting.  I'm sure everyone knows you have to add your own panache to most scenery.  There is always something wrong.  Except today it was so nice to be outside I didn't even notice how dull and gray every thing still is.  The little green sprouts are bursting forth and soon we artists will be belly aching 'cuz everything is so green.

Tomorrow, Thursday, my painting group, the DLP will be painting in a vineyard north of here.  I will give a full report tomorrow night here and on the DLP blog.

No. 14 in the 30 Day Challenge

Hey Friends,  Just got home from the wonderful Lynchburg Art Festival .  Again I love this festival.
I was ready to go home, fairly happy with the sales at about 3pm and then this wonderful lady named Nanci came along with her family and bought 2 of my most favorite pieces.

She really made my day because she loved the work and she was willing to pay money for them.  That doesn't sound right.  What I mean is besides willingness to pay, she genuinely loved them.

She bought the one above and I'll show you the other one tomorrow.  I'm doing it this way so I can get them posted for the 30 in 30 day challenge.  Don't think of it as cheating.  This challenge and this show schedule I'm on are wearing this chick down.  To remind you, I've got two gallery shows in October with the Double Line Painters.   And I need to finish those and make more for this challenge.

13 Paintings in 13 Days

Hey Friends,  Here is the companion piece to yesterdays challenge.  This title is "Singing with My Love".
I could see this turning into a series.....Ya never know.  These two hang out a lot together and always have so much fun.  Maybe they should write a book ? !
No time for funny business today.  I've gotta finish framing and pack and what else?

12th Painting in the 30 Day Challenge !

Hey Friends,  I love fantasy art or maybe they are called illustrations.  Like James Gurney's work, in Dinotopia.  Of course, my stories are snippets, just a peak into a couple of strange brain cells.

The title here is " Listening to My Love's Story "

 I remember once in a while to take photos as I work along - so here we go.  Above, I'm thinking of which papers I want to use.  That's the gel I used to glue them on the ampersand panels and the crackle liquid, I will put on after the paper is glued.

 Here I'm showing you my process of sketching the bodies in different positions and then cutting them out of Masa Rice paper and staining with acrylic ink.

 This shot and below is showing you how hard it was to decide on something such as what color to make the shadows.  Above is a green shadow.  And I just noticed I need to go back and highlight the birds eye.

And here is ablue shadow.  Can you see the piece of glass?  You lay that on the painting and put your color choices on it, so you don't mess up the original !  I learned that tidbit from Julie Ford Oliver.  Can you tell how old my art table is?   It was white years ago, now it's sort of a splattered egg look.

Painted Today

Hey Friends, The 10x10 above was done for a friend to give her mother. The puppy in the swing with her Mom died recently and her Mom really loved the big fella. So it's kinda like she is taking the pup up to heaven on a swing to show him how beautiful it is there and not to be afraid. See the dog looking at her and listening to her every word.

And the one above (which I didn't crop correctly) is just a piece I was playing with. I've always considered myself a colorist but thought I'd really push the colors while I was playing.

A title is always a pickle for me. How about "Red Shoes" or "Granny's Lap Blanket" or "Reading in Gran's Sunroom".

I also started 2 more ! One of a Peacock and another of children on a lake.

GRANNY'S HIBISCUS

My mom always has some perennial hibiscus growing around the house.Lots of texture in this piece. Of course this is my favorite model wandering in the yard.
