Alla Prima by Richard Schmid

Hey Friends, Thought you might like to know the book above "Alla Prima" is really worth reading. This is the third time I've read it and something new, just little tidbits, sinks into my hard head each time! Is it because I've painted more (experience?) or I'm in a different mood? or maybe because I wasn't reading in bed?
I injured the old knee again last night, almost made me cry, so I've been laying around reading and eating bon-bons, like a little queen. You guys have a great week painting!

Happy Trails.

I'm so sorry to hear about your knee! I love to hear about really good books, especially art related ones. Thank you for that. Hope you recover quickly and eat a bon bon for me!

Sue,

Wish you a quick recovery...
Or, do you take this as an opportunity for reading and be merry enjoying the care...

Just joking...
Wish you a quicker recovery...

Hey ladies, Thanks for your thoughts. Knee is much better already. I guess I'll have to wear this little knee wrap/brace thingy from now on. Not such a bad price to pay to be able to walk. Maybe this book is in the library by now, but I doubt it.
Have a wonderful week.

Thanks for the recommendation--I think I would like this book. Checked Amazon $70+; am checking with my brother who's in old and rare book business. He'll probably have one for $200+, if he can find it. (I have more books than our local library.)

What are bon-bons?

Isn't a good book just the best?

Hi! First time viewing your blog and I like it a lot. I'm going to have to check out that book and see if I can find it. I know what you mean. I have one called "Being an ARtist" by Lehrman. I think it's been retitled. Anyway, it's a Northlight Book. I look at that over and over. All about specific successful artists and how they have struggled and made it. It's so inspiring. Would you recommend this book to someone who's a terrible painter? Maybe reading it will make me better...

I hope your knee is feeling better by now! Poor thing, get all the rest you need. Everyone deserves a little bit of relaxation.

Hi Sue, Happy to have found your blog! I just purchased this book and am currently about half way thru it. It's a great book with lots of great advice. I have two of his videos also both very helpful! Hope your knee gets better quick!

Hi Just read HW Farber's comment- I purchased this book in soft cover directly from Richard Schmid's website for $50. (richardschmid.com)

I just bumped into your blog and glad I did! I bought the same book when it first came out. I've poured over it so much that I'm ashamed to say I've got smears of paint on some of the pages and the binding is in need of repair.

The two pages with the paint charts have been very helpful to me when painting.

Good luck with your knee...I can sure relate to that.

Hi Sue,
Thanks for following me and thanks for the reminder about Richard Schmid's book. I went on Amazon and found it once, (I think it was quite expensive) and then I reread Carlson's Guide to Landscape Painting and forgot about Schmid. So I will have to get onto purchasing this book again. These books are so full of fabulous painting techniques and insight, that it's a bit overwhelming and reminds me that I am an eternal student.

I'm going to try that book, I 'Interlibrary Loaned' it. You have to wait from 2-4 weeks, but hey, it's free! We have so many books that the last time we moved, our movers complained about them. This one sounds very special; if it is, I'm going to add to the weight of our home!
