PLEIN AIR AT GREENHILL PARK IN SALEM, VA.

Hey Friends,  Right this minute I can hear thunder and rain !!  A drastic change since this morning at Green Hill Park in Salem, Va. along the Roanoke River.

I usually take a million pictures every spring of the Mertensia (Va. Blue Bells) along the banks of this river.  Not this year, too late, the wild phlox is blooming now.  And I have felt really under the weather with all the allergies and colds that's why I missed the mertensia  and why I didn't feel like painting this morning.

I just took my sketchbook and made several little studies that I should paint from right away before the memories fade.

You can go to the DLP blog to see a couple little videos I made of the other gals painting.

It was a beautiful morning and the sun made me feel better.

ORIENTAL CHERRY - SPRING SENSATIONS ART EXHIBIT

Hey Friends,  Bee's are a favorite subject of mine, I've painted many of them.  The bumble bee more than others.  Probably because I have more models of them than any others.

Here is what she could look on a wall in anyone's home.  Original works of art have a quality that you will never find in a print or a canvas reproduction, no matter what any one tells you.  Of course you need them side by side to see what I mean.  Of course there are better repro's made at some facilities, such as Fine Art America, and you can get a print of this painting there.
Or you can go to my website and buy the Original there.  Or you can go right now to 2nd Helpings Gallery in Roanoke and purchase it right off the wall !

Thank you for visiting

STRENGTH FOR THE JOURNEY AHEAD - EXHIBIT AT 2ND HELPINGS

Hey Friends,  One of my most favorite things to paint is the sky.  The big puffy clouds, the long skinny dark clouds of storms, of sunsets.  I could still lay on a blanket and watch them go by but you know how adults are.  No one wants to waste time, no one wants to appear lazy.  No one would consider that a meaningful use of time.  I'm thinking maybe the next time I go to plein air, I will just take a blanket and a camera.

Ya never know, maybe I will capture some glorious clouds on film for future paintings.
I would never consider that a waste of time, if I wound up with another painting I love, like the one above.

She is available to grace your home at my website HERE.
Or prints are available HERE.

Have a lovely week.

VASES - SPRING SENSATIONS ART SHOW

Hey Friends,  I'm shaking it up here.  The photos aren't in their usual places.  And that's only 'cause they would not move to the places I wanted them.

Both of these paintings are in the SPRING SENSATIONS SHOW
at 2nd Helpings Gallery on Williamson Rd. in Roanoke, Va.

And a room photo showing how goofy they would look on these big walls.  The one above is a 24" x 12"  and below is 20" x 10".
Besides some really handsome ART you will find gently used furniture and glass items and gently used clothing, some of it still has the original sales tags.  And childrens stuff and mens.  And of course their famous cafe, with fantastic foods and sweets.

These two paintings were created with painted papers, ribbon, lots of gel
and mark making tools I found everywhere.  And of course lots of acrylic
paint.  And being vertical, it should be easy to find wall spaces for them to fit.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend
and a Happy Easter.
Hug all your bunnies tight.

SMOKE OVER OUR VALLEY - ORIGINAL LANDSCAPE PAINTING

Hey Friends,  It's over whelming so I'm trying to make some room in my studio.  If I think a painting has some merit, I will offer it on Ebay as the last channel.  This was started on Mill Mountain, back when Wytheville was suffering with a lot of brush fires.  The wind blew the smoke into our valley and it sat there for a day and an evening.

This painted with oils and is 10" x 19".  This is a nice hand made frame and is not the garrish gold seen in the photo.  It has a softer golden look.

It is up for auction HERE on Ebay.

PINK BOXWOOD - ORIGINAL MIXED MEDIA PAINTING

Hey Friends, The DLP's installed the new show "SPRING SENSATIONS" at 2nd Helpings Gallery in Roanoke on Williamson Rd.  This painting is hanging in the show along with a few more I will post about soon.

This is how it started it's life.  I gelled some quotes and words on to an 18x24 deep canvas along with a few pieces of hand colored papers.

I kept adding papers in the blue sky and the green grassy areas.

Here is a close up of one corner and maybe you can see some of the verbiage.  You can click on the image to make it bigger.

And here is what it would like hanging on your wall.  It is varnished and wired and ready to hang.
Shipping is free in the continental US.
It is available at my website FASO.
Repros and pillows and such are available at FAA.

Hope to see you at 2nd Helpings Sat. the 8th from 1-3 for our reception.  We will be painting and visiting with you.

ROADBLOCK - Original Abstract Painting

Hey Friends,  Tell me what you think of this one?  I painted it last fall, late 2016. One of my first experiments with Bob Burridge's color wheel.  He has some informative video's on YouTube about his wheel.

This is a detail shot that hopefully you can see the textures.  Made with a cake decorating tool.  A few splatters too.

This is listed for sale at my website HERE.
And you can get prints, canvas or paper, at FAA HERE.

Thanks for stopping in.

TWINKLE TWINKLE - Original Landscape Painting

Hey Friends,  This Painting was created because I wanted to put that beautiful cloud on canvas.  I enjoy storms and all their drama probably because I've never been hurt by one

And I wanted to add a little whimsy here by using some paper with verbage on it. This paper has the little song on it. Twinkle Little Star.  I know it doesn't have anything to do with a storm but storms do happen a lot, late in the day, and then the moon and stars come out.
Whether you are a storm lover or hater, this would look good hanging on your wall.

Check it out on my website HERE.
Or check out the prints on FAA HERE

Have a wonderful day.

the GIVEAWAY !!!

Hey Friends,  Spent the weekend at the Home Builders Show at the Salem Civic Center.  We had lots of people to come through and chat.  And right outside our gallery was the Animal Rescue group from Daleville I think.  The 2 precious little blondes above and two others were adopted!!  YaY!!

And this Cutie Pie called Amelia, did me the honor of pulling a name out of the bucket for the giveaway.  The farm painting that you see in the photo now belongs to a gentleman in Covington, Va. I will be mailing it soon.
I picked up a stomach bug at this venue so haven't been to the post office yet.

Hoping you all have a fab week.

THE JOY OF RECEIVING - Original Mixed Media Painting

Started off with a shot on the angle again so you can see the flexible modeling paste without paint on it.

Here is the first cool gray layer.

Some white paint rubbed on.

Some painted papers added next.

Lots of paint layers in the red flowers, which to me look like old fashioned thorny roses.  Some of the dark reds smeared on with fingers and greens too.
Bright, lively, fresh take on a still life.
Varnished and ready to hang.  You could purchase over at my website HERE.
You can find gifts such as mugs and totes at my FAA shop HERE.

Enjoy your week !

HONEYCOMB - Original Floral and Bee Painting

Hey Friends,  This painting is 16" x 20" canvas that was a pleasure to do.

This shot shows the texture I made with a stencil and modeling paste at the beginning.

This shows how well the transparent brown oxide paint makes the honeycomb show up.

Laid some large pieces of painted papers down.  Wish I had taken a close up of the paper, they are so pretty.

Incorporated some marks and smeared paints with fingers.

Here is the finish with the busy little bees added and a varnish.  It is ready to hang.
You can purchase at my website HERE.
You will find prints, totes etc, at FAA HERE.

Thanks for stopping by.

FRACKING - Original Expressive Abstracted Landscape Painting

Hey Friends, Started out on a surface that already had some color on it.

First time I remembered to stop and take a photo.

Love the textures here.

Adding colors and making decisions.

I think the cloud line is finished.

I added the dark piece of deli paper in the upper left corner with tape.  Decided I liked that.

All the little touches are done and I love it.  My statement about the idiots that have too much money but are still so greedy they want land that doesn't belong to them.  And will TAKE it because this government will let them.

Available for purchase at my website HERE.

Prints, T-shirts and more at FAA HERE.
