Hey Friends,  You should have come with us today.  We went to Roaring Run which is out past Botetourt and Fincastle on Rt. 220.  Positively worth the little bit of time it takes to get there.

Top photo I was almost finished with this 9x12 and I DID finish it and signed it.  Hoping that would keep me from fiddling with it anymore.
I was going to paint this spot on the creek (above) but the others were packed up and ready for lunch.
Time fly's when you are in the zone.

I will have to go back after I get my license to carry a gun.  Maybe an assault rifle so I can shoot at every little bird that breaks a twig.  You know, the paranoia of a bear leaping out of no where, to drag you back to the liar for the cubs to eat.

I probably just need a good stiff drink before I leave the car. HA!

Hey Friends,  Just in case you have not heard, the Home Builders Assoc. will be having their fall home show at the Salem Civic Center this coming weekend, Sept. 23 thru 24.

I will have another series of Professional Chickens at this show for your early purchase of gifts for the up-coming season.  This series of chickens will have the Biscuit Lady back along with the Cookie baker, the ER Nurse, the Chiropractor, the GP, the Orthopedic Doc, the Head Nurse, the Farmer, The Carpenter, the Teachers Aide and many more.
These are all 4" x 4" and on deep gallery wrapped canvas that can sit on a shelf or a desk or be hung anywhere you want.
I will take orders if you need a specific profession that I have not thought of.

Hope to see you there and please share with friends you think will appreciate this humor.

Hey Friends,  I just put this little gem in my EBAY shop.  This is a reproduction of a painting I made years ago.  I had great pleasure making this short lived series.
The whole purpose in painting them was to play with abstracted back grounds

Of course I love birds too that's why they were the feature.  But time changes everything, even me,
Now I would rather just make the backgrounds.
Or in other words, I am enjoying making abstracts

I have put just about all work made before 2017 in my shop.  I have a few more to go but I need the room, the space in my studio and shed for more canvas'.
Art makes a lovely gift and I bet you can find a pretty for someone on your list.
Visit my EBAY Store  HERE.

On another note, my group of plein aire paintrs, the DLP, were scheduled to go to Garst Mill to paint this morning.  It was raining here in Salem, Va. so I stayed home.  Some of them went anyway.  There is a shelter there so they could stay dry.
I love to paint at this park but my favorite spots can't be seen from the shelter.
I have been plein aire painting a good bit here lately so I don't feel bad about cancelling.

Have a great weekend.

Hey Friends,  Myself and Linda went to practice a little more plein aire today. Not sure I'll be ready by Oct. 14th for the BIG plein aire event "PLEIN AIRE SOUTH PEAK"

The top 2 photos are from last week, just been a tad busy and not blogging like I should.
I don't think I've finished this one yet.

This bottom piece is from this morning.  Just to be fair to myself, I have been trying the palettes of the guy that wrote the book "YIN YANG" Mr. Zhang works with
He has 3 palettes
The photo directly above is using the Red-Green Palette.  The one I painted before this one (which I scrubbed off) was using the Purple-Yellow Palette.  And the Purple-Yellow is not a good one for landscapes.  I guess it would be good for still life or a pale cat or dog.  You can't get a good dark or a good green.  It was ugly.
That is another good reason to practice plein aire when you want to use a different palette or try new colors.  For the next session, I will try the Blue-Orange and then the common palette of a cold and a warm of the 3 primary colors.  That will be fun, getting back to the basics.

Til next time.
Take care of your neighbors when it counts.
Plenty of prayers and good MoJo to our neighbors in Florida.

New Show in Covington and Plein Aire at South Peak

Hey Friends,  Judy and Mary Anne along with Kyle (above photo) hung a new show at the Alleghany Highlands Regional Library in Covington, Va. today.  We hope you will be able to visit them and see the new work.  HERE is a link for more info.

Linda and I went to South Peak again today to do some more practice pieces.  The sky was beautiful even though these photos don't tell you much.

These top 2 photos were taken from the parking lot of the Hilton Hotel, just below South Peak as you can see.

I was using some palettes I'm not exactly used to.  They came from a book called the YIN and YANG.  The top 2 were a red/green color palette.

And these two were the blue/orange palette.  I did not finish any of the 3 totally.  They were pretty slippery and I need to let them get sorta dry or sticky so I can get some more paint to stick and stay put.  I like both color combos.

I won't know for sure until I finish them.  Hopefully they can go into the art show.
Have you put this plein air event on your calendar?  You can come October 13, 14, or 15.
More details will follow.

Was scheduled for Sat. the 2nd but IRMA and HARVEY have changed it to Sunday.

Hope to see you come by.

Hey Friends,  Announcing the first SALE I've ever tried to conduct on line.  I will need lots of prayers and luck to make it go smoothly.  This sunflower is the latest piece I added to my           EBAY  Store.  And the sale is 25% off any and all paintings !

I never would have dreamed how long it takes to list one item on Ebay !!  The most time consuming thing I've done for days.  I have over a 100 items listed now  and I have more to go.  I have not participated in any selling venues for several years so I have a glut of paintings sitting there taking up my little bit of space in the studio.

I used to travel  a lot, to outdoor festivals up and down the East Coast but time changes everyone and their bodies.  It isn't as easy as it once was to set up a heavy tent and flats, etc. etc.

So here I am trying something new ONLINE.

Hoping you will share this post and go have a look yourself.  Art makes a wonderful gift and that time is rolling in pretty fast.

Hey Friends,  I have had a very good two days, right here in the studio.  I started another series of CHICKENS WITH ODD CAREERS.

I have 18 so far.  The little lady above is the "BISCUIT LADY".......She is the first one to arrive at Hardee's every morning.

Here they are with a fresh coat of varnish.  The only problem I see is that this series could go on for a while .  After I varnished and gave each a title,  it occured to me I did not have any Senators, or Congressmen, or mayors or ball players or actors.  See what I mean?
I'll just have to take it slower.

Hope your day was FAB too.

Hey Friends,  I finished this up today.  I think the word is SWOONING or PINING to be there.  I would like to live on the beach for about a year.  I'd like to know if I'd ever get tired of the sand and sun.  Can't imagine that.

This is a 12" square canvas Panel and it is in my Ebay Store HERE.

I was out plein airing all by myself yesterday and finished 2 of the local scenery.

I will post them tomorrow maybe.  I love it when I have something fun to show you.

Have a grand Sunday evening.

Howdy Friends,  I have had a good day at home in spite of the blazing heat !  I got a new GO Cart for plein air painting.  See it above with some panels I toned for my next trip out.

And LOOK !  Everything fits, tripod and all.  And there is a seat that is built in on the back and just folds down.  This is the best design I have seen so far.  I used to have to put a tiny seat and the tripod and the canvas holder across the top and at least one or two would fall off.  NO More!

And when I ordered the cart, I order Thalo Turq. and Mars Black oil paints.
I was told to mix Mars Black with yellow to get greens.

As you might be able to see from my charts, Mars Black is not the right black.  So then I tried Lamp Black, the last line.  That one was not much better.  So I will have to do some research.  I am wanting some more greens for the upcoming plein air event at South Peak in October.

Hope you have a fantastic weekend, inspite of all the ugliness in our world.

Hey Friends,  Busy time of the year, right?
Have you gotten your Babes already for school?
Linda and I don't have to worry about that anymore, our Babes are all grown with Babes of their own.
So Thursday we went to South Peak, here in Roanoke, Va. and painted from inside an empty/under construction Home unit on the top floor.  With the windows and door open it was almost like being outside.  We wanted a little plein air practice because our event at South Peak will be here before you know it.

And I want to remind you there is still time to sign up for the "NO BRUSHES WORKSHOP" at the LAC.

Go.....Do it Now....And I'll see you there.

Hey Dear Friend Friends,  Glad some of you made to the reception last night at Lynchburg Art Club.
We had a great time and as you can see the Club always puts out a grand table.

Everyone has to get a few bites before they start choosing their favorites.

And looky here, Sue standing on her own two legs !  Was I still under the effects of the anesthia when I painted these two?  Either that or I had something Hi-Octane in that glass.

The group, Double Line Painters had a good time at the event.

Check out the Art Clubs website HERE for times, etc. because the show is up through the end of August.

LYNCHBURG ART CLUB Hanging the Show-"Gtd. to Make Your Couch

Hey Friends,  Even though I have been a wee bit lax with my blog, I am a busy gal.
Here I meet with two other members of the DLP's , Linda and Bonnie.
We wanted to make sure our giant works would all fit into two cars.!

We had to get a few off the floor in the office area.

But most were just placed where we wanted them to hang.

the LAC has their own hanging committee !  Above are a few of mine.

This is our promotional poster with the address and the times.
We do hope some of you will make the short trip to Lynchburg to see all the Monster sized
paintings that will match your couch!!

Hey Friends,
I played HOOKEY today and stayed HOME!  I needed some quiet time.
I tried to straighten my studio a bit, somewhat successful.  If your heart isn't into, you know it just won't go the way you intend.

I got it straightened enough to get this started.  I think tomorrow I will put squiggles all over it.
This is HARD.

Wish me luck.

Have a grand weekend and Happy Trails

Hey Friends,  Just letting you know, in case you are in the area, Linda Schaar and I changed out the art work hanging at Harrogate in Salem, Va. today.

Linda took this photo and sent it to me (my camera ran out of power).  Her phone has an excellent camera in it.

We did this after our meeting at South Peak this morning, with Bonnie Hooper.
We feel like this Plein Air event at South Peak this Oct. is gonna be GOOD!!
We sure are hoping so and we are putting in the time and effort and planning to make it top notch.

Even if you don't paint, you should make plans to be there.  There will be fun and vendors with food and drink.  And the Judge, Trey Finney, will give a demo !  And let me mention that if you aren't interested in watching a demo, just watch him.  Yum.

More info to follow.

Thanks for visiting

Hey Friends,  I have been outside in the yard painting this morning.  Too lazy to go find a pretty spot.  I have been painting from memory.
Set up under the big Ginko Tree.

What I have been doing is, making a few shapes/lines from photos taken before hand of my Secret Place, just down the road from me.

This Secret Place is where the local brick company has been getting their clay to make bricks.  The excavating and blasting they have done is, of course, changing the landscape.

I will look at the photo on my computer screen and then come back outside to paint what I remember.  And I only look at the screen once, I don't want to remember every detail.

This makes it a bit more interpretive and more like really being there.  I made four 8x10's of this place.  Now I must wait for my scanner to be re-installed before I can do anything else with them.
They will go into my EBAY store..  Can anyone tell me why my scanner just decided to leave home?  Do storms do it?

This last bitty fella came from a farm on Rt. 220 going to Clifton Forge.  I was riding this trip with a friend so I was able to take some fairly decent photos.  When I'm driving I get nothing but a blur.

I had to bring the easel and all inside because I can't make a cow look like anything from memory.
Love it when I find black and white cows!

So I'll post again when the scanner works.
