NEATLY TIED - ONE OF A KIND ABSTRACT

This is one that just would not reveal it self to me.  So I'm calling it NEATLY TIED.  of course you can always give it a new name if you adopt it.
I love the colors and the swirls and that little string that ties it all together.

Would look really KOOL in a floater frame at the end of a hall.

It is available HERE

HANG YOUR HEAD ORIGINAL OIL PAINTING

Hey Friends,   A new painting that I finished about a month ago and it's finally dry !!  I prefer to scan my work when ever small enough, to get a better photo.

This was painted for the majority of it at a sunflower farm in Buchanan, Va.  It was the end of their season and the heads were heavy and hanging a bit low, thus the title.  Really hoping to get back there when they are at their prime.
This is listed in my EBAY STORE for sale, with free shipping  and would it not make a NICE gift for your love?!  I will gift wrap it FREE also.

Thanks for stopping by.

FINALLY - - - ART OF THE CAROLINAS

Hey My Friends,   At long last, I made it to "ART OF THE CAROLINAS" in Raleigh, NC.  I have wanted to see it for my self for years !  And the tradeshow was no disappointment.   I have heard that some people buy their supplies for the year at this show.  Now I believe it.  Hand truck after hand truck went by with cases of canvas...all sizes.   Grocery type buggies full of paint went by.
AMAZING

I was doing my little thing, perusing all the unknown corners and suddenly it was time for the little 1/2 day work shop with Bob Burridge (seen above).  I had to stack what I had found so far and run.

I was not late but I had to sit in the back which was a big bummer 'cuz I can't hear well.
Of course he had no microphone but the little gal sitting beside me was kind and told me the important words.

I'm not sure but it seems he was eye balling me a bit or maybe he just wanted to make sure I got a decent photo or maybe he did not like my photo snapping (I did not ask).
In the third photo he is holding my fav of his paintings.  It's a healthy woman in a turquoise bikini.
Oh, if it had only been a few hundred, It would have been mine.  But I judged from his small ones at $425.00 that this one was about $2500.00.  or more.

Here is my friend Linda, doing her best to keep up.  He didn't give you much time between exercises, so you would not fiddle with details.  I believe we learned SOMETHING, but honestly, I knew everything he said before he said it from years of watching his videos.  But I should of known I wouldn't learn much in a couple of hours.

Can't wait to go back.
And I told several employees and Mr Jerry, that we wanted an Artarama in Roanoke or Salem, Va.
He said "Yeah, that's interesting"

A SUNFLOWER FARM IN BUCHANON & A FARM IN SALEM

Hey Friends,  Did you know there is a huge sunflower farm in Buchanan ?  I did not until a couple weeks ago when they had their 2nd festival.

The owner Candace let us paint there today.
HERE is her FB page for the farm

So many beautiful views, it was hard to pick.
Above I set up close to the flowers to do a portrait of sorts.
I will have to finish here at home.

And here is another beautiful farm, not really now, maybe at one time, but a gorgeous piece of property nontheless, that I hope to get back to soon.

Has this faded red barn, which I think was for cows at one time.  Now it stores machinery.

This was my last start for this day.  Includes the stream and a good view of the white fence.
Very dry here in SW Va. now so the stream is tiny.  Probably when spring rolls around again, it will be full and I can try to capture that.

All in all, it has been a good week for plein air.  How much longer will it last.?  Please tell me through October the 15th !  We want some clear, sunny days for the South Peak Paint Out this year.

PINK BOXWOOD - ORIGINAL MIXED MEDIA PAINTING

Hey Friends, The DLP's installed the new show "SPRING SENSATIONS" at 2nd Helpings Gallery in Roanoke on Williamson Rd.  This painting is hanging in the show along with a few more I will post about soon.

This is how it started it's life.  I gelled some quotes and words on to an 18x24 deep canvas along with a few pieces of hand colored papers.

I kept adding papers in the blue sky and the green grassy areas.

Here is a close up of one corner and maybe you can see some of the verbiage.  You can click on the image to make it bigger.

And here is what it would like hanging on your wall.  It is varnished and wired and ready to hang.
Shipping is free in the continental US.
It is available at my website FASO.
Repros and pillows and such are available at FAA.

Hope to see you at 2nd Helpings Sat. the 8th from 1-3 for our reception.  We will be painting and visiting with you.

ROADBLOCK - Original Abstract Painting

Hey Friends,  Tell me what you think of this one?  I painted it last fall, late 2016. One of my first experiments with Bob Burridge's color wheel.  He has some informative video's on YouTube about his wheel.

This is a detail shot that hopefully you can see the textures.  Made with a cake decorating tool.  A few splatters too.

This is listed for sale at my website HERE.
And you can get prints, canvas or paper, at FAA HERE.

Thanks for stopping in.

THE JOY OF RECEIVING - Original Mixed Media Painting

Started off with a shot on the angle again so you can see the flexible modeling paste without paint on it.

Here is the first cool gray layer.

Some white paint rubbed on.

Some painted papers added next.

Lots of paint layers in the red flowers, which to me look like old fashioned thorny roses.  Some of the dark reds smeared on with fingers and greens too.
Bright, lively, fresh take on a still life.
Varnished and ready to hang.  You could purchase over at my website HERE.
You can find gifts such as mugs and totes at my FAA shop HERE.

Enjoy your week !

KEEP THE OLD New Original Collage Art

Hey Friends,  Do you like my new works?  Do you appreciate collages?  Do you admire mixed media?
I am sure to most people it looks like a NO Brainer but give it a try sometime.  Make some papers with colors and designs that get your creative juices flowing.  Then rip them up or cut if you like a hard edge and lay them on your canvas.  Move things around and draw a bit and do some stamping and stenciling.  Then glue it all down and varnish.
More than likely you will be saying to yourself, "DANG this is hard!!"

It does not matter if you try or not, I LOVE doing them and can't STOP now.

Now you are invited to a new art show going up on April 4th at 2nd Helpings Art  Gallery which is at 1501 Williamson Rd. in Roanoke, Va.

Here is a piece that will be in the show.  Mixed Media, not a total collage.  I plan to make an abstract or two for this show also.
I'm hoping you put it on your calendar and come out.  The DLP members are planning to paint during the reception and I hope to be organized enough to work on a collage.  We also have some surprises in store, like maybe a door prize.
We always have fun and really enjoy talking with our collectors and the public.

Hope to see you there.

MAKE NEW FRIENDS Original Collage

Hey Friends,  Somewhere in the last week I came across the Ole Saying  Make New Friends but Keep the Old, probably on the web.  I liked that idea for a couple of collages.  So here is the first Make New Friends.
This is available on my website HERE and prints and such are HERE on FAA.

So in case you have been feeling BAD, sickly, like the flu or something,  SO have I!!  I feel so bad I almost hit this slow pokey computer with the trash can.

No. 31 in 30 day Challenge - "STAR CITY"

Hey Friends, If you look closely you will see the black and white grid this paper started life as.
You just start laying down pieces of painted papers and something will usually show up.  You don't glue until you have something that seems to be calling you.

After the initial layer of papers are glued that's when you start embellishing.

I had forgotten how much I enjoy doing this, before this challenge started.

And I thought the challenge went through the end of January but NO it ended yesterday on the 30th.  That's OK I'm publishing this anyway.

I took my 2 beautiful Gran-Babes to the circus Sunday evening, even though it was freezing and blowing a mix of rain, ice, snow !  I took about 400 photos and have already deleted a bunch and not finished yet

Hoping I can get ideas and photos for collage paintings.

Thanks for traveling with me and hope you continue to visit.

No.30 in 30 Day Challenge - " HOMEMADE GOLD"

Hey Friends,  This really did start life as a black and white page out of a scrap book paper pad.  Just rubbed a gray acrylic all over and then added the faux gold leaf.  I made a post earlier in January and told you I wanted to see how gold paint acted on deli paper.  I like it and love how easy it is too handle as opposed to real gold leaf.  See it HERE.

Added a bit of brushwork, some spattering, a dribble and "thar she be".

One more day!

Thanks for looking.

No.27 in the 30 Day Challenge - LAUREL

Hey Friends,  Wanted you to see this one because I took a few process shots.  As you can see above, it really did start off as black and white (that was supposed to be my theme for this challenge)

And then I started braying (is that a word?) on some pale aqua.

And then here, I got out the alcohol ink.

And the finale!  painted the donut shapes, cut some sticks and stamped on some circles and finished off with scribbles.  "Tis FUN.
Some pieces just seem to take own their own attitude and help you with the details.
Some are nothing but a struggle from the get go.

No.26 in 30 Day Challenge - SHEETROCK

Hey Friends,  Again I forgot some process photos.  There really wasn't much to show anyway.  Used some of the tape stuff they put on sheet rock and cut out some circles of it and scribbled circles around the circles with acrylic markers

Yep, It's an ODD one.

This Challenge will soon be over and I think I will miss it a little.  But I also feel like I'm ready to move on to something bigger.

No. 25 in the 30 Day Challenge - PURPLE MOONS

Hey Friends,  It is Day 25 !!   This piece has been sitting there looking at me for a week.  I finally added what you see below.  One small purple moon.

Sent the image to a friend for a critique.  She thought I needed a more obvious focal point.  DUH.....How obvious can it get.

So after another couple days, I changed the one purple moon to white and cut out 2 larger purple moons.  Not sure they are what it needed but there she is in all her glory for ALL to snicker at.
In the end I think she will make some good collage pieces for other works.

Thanks for stopping in.  Hope Mother Nature is being kind to you.

NO.24 in the 30 Day Challenge - ' DONUTS'

Hey Friends,  I'm tickled with how this one turned out.  I started with the cut out circles and it occurred to me then, that they could be donuts.

Then the red swirly thing looked like an old fashioned stove burner which lead to the HOT COFFEE.

This has been a fun ride and hope you have gotten a spark or two out of it.

If not, just go to You Tube.  That ought to get your motor going.

Until tomorrow,

No.23 in the 30 Day Challenge - WHITE DAISYS

Hey Friends,  Here is my latest experiment.  Using my new acrylic markers.  It feels a bit like going back to childhood days of coloring in the lines only.  Out lining the leaves gave it an entirely new look  And I like the worn out use of alcohol spots.

Have really enjoyed all my studio time but still anticipating painting out doors.
